The links listed below under the names of uniform laws and model acts (see what is the difference between a uniform act and a model  act) point to state-enacted versions of laws that the Uniform Law Commission (ULC), also known as the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL), and a few special-interest groups have drafted and recommended for enactment by the states. (In some cases, not all of a state’s enacted uniform laws are listed here even though they are available. Entries will be added as time permits.)
Whenever possible, a link here leads directly to the state-enacted version of the law in question (although sometimes it will be necessary to scroll down the displayed page, or do a browser search, so as to bring the law into view) or leads to a table-of-contents page having links to the sections (or larger parts) of the law in question.
However, some states’ laws are presented on the internet in ways making it impossible to link directly to a given law. A link on the state name is given in such a case. The state statutes will be opened in a separate window (or tab), and then it will be necessary to navigate to the law in question. Moreover, because there is no feasible way to monitor changes in the laws of those states, it is possible that a citation reference given on this page could be inaccurate.

Names of laws are alphabetized by the first significant word, disregarding “uniform,” “model,” “state,” “multistate,” “act,” “law,” “code,” “rules,” and articles and prepositions.

Use this selection list to see a page of links to the uniform laws and model acts enacted in a particular state. (For some states, although the state statutes may be accessible on the internet, links have not yet been created on this site for the uniform laws.)

For whatever this may be worth . . . Nevada appears to have enacted more uniform laws than any other state, and most of those appear to reflect the recommended versions with few or no changes.

The Uniform Law Commission provides a summary of current state legislative activity on uniform laws, which is organized by act and by state. The Uniform Law Commission also provides information on which states have adopted a particular uniform law; those pages are linked on “Legislative Activity” in the entries below.

See also the Wikipedia article “List of Uniform Acts (United States),” which has links to other articles on particular uniform acts and model acts. (A site formerly maintained by the University of Pennsylvania Law School, which had links to drafts of proposed uniform laws and model acts and proposed revisions of existing laws and acts, is defunct. The content of that site has not been preserved at any other web site, unfortunately.)

What Are “Uniform” Acts and “Model” Acts

What is a “uniform” law? The Uniform Law Commission states, “A uniform state law is a statute that has been promulgated by the Uniform Law Commission. Although other organizations may adopt the term ‘uniform’ when describing their own acts, generally, when the term ‘uniform’ is used, it is highly likely that it is a law that has been drafted and approved by the ULC. Besides uniform acts, the ULC also promulgates ‘model’ acts. A uniform act is one in which uniformity of the provisions of the act among the various jurisdictions is a principal and compelling objective. An act may be designated as ‘model’ if the principal purposes of the act can be substantially achieved even though it is not adopted in its entirety by every state.”

The difference was explained as follows by the Michigan Law Revision Commission (1997). “Unlike a Uniform Act, whose principal objective is to obtain immediate uniformity among the States on a particular legal subject, a Model Act may be more of an experimental effort to assist States in developing effective new approaches to a particular problem area of the law. A Model Act may contain more novel approaches, the efficacy of which can only be attained through some trial and error. Although uniformity may prove to be desirable at some point, it is not imperative in the short term.”

In practice, if a “uniform” act fails to receive the expected support among state legislatures, the Uniform Law Commission may relegate it, informally, to model-act status by simply referring to it as a “model” act. See, e.g., Cal. L. Rev. Comm’n, “Mechanic’s Liens: Issues and Other Approaches,” Memo. 2000-26, p. 14 (2000) (concluding that the Uniform Construction Lien Act was thus relegated to model-act status).

Organizations other than the Uniform Law Commission have sponsored model acts, some of which are listed below on this page. For instance, the Model Business Corporation Act was created under the aegis of the American Bar Association. Those model acts, like the ULC-sponsored model acts, are recommended for the purpose of promoting the uniformity of state laws.

On the main page for the Code of Alabama, in the table-of-contents frame, scroll down to the desired title (the first element of a section number: for example, “8” in “8-26A-1”) and click on it. Then, in the other frame, scroll down to the desired chapter or article (“26A” in the example) and click on it. Scroll down to the desired section.

Reliable links to discrete units larger than sections cannot be maintained because titles, chapters, and articles are stored in sequentially numbered files (therefore, some links to titles, chapters, and articles would become erroneouos after any revision of the code). Links cannot be maintained to the official version of the Alaska Statutes (in a Folio Infobase). There are links here to an alternative version that is much easier to use. It is provided by James B. Gottstein, an attorney in Anchorage, through Touch N’ Go Systems, Inc., which maintains a web site called Alaska Legal Resource Center. The Arkansas Code cannot be viewed on-line except at a fee-based web site. A free LexisNexis version of the code can be searched (with limited results) but cannot be browsed. Because of the way California codified laws are presented on-line, it is not always possible to link directly to a particular law. Some entries in the list below have a link to the code’s table of contents and an instruction to scroll down or browser-search to find the beginning section of the law in question. --> No official version of the Colorado Revised Statutes can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the number after the hyphen indicates an article: “§ 38-33.3-101” is in title 38, article 33.3.
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. Direct links to the contents of the Florida Statutes below the top level (numbered titles) cannot be easily maintained. Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then, in the listing of titles in the Florida Statutes, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. In a citation to a beginning section (such as “Fla. Stat. § 682.01 et seq.”), the number preceding the decimal point is a chapter number. The listing of titles in the Florida Statutes includes, at the right side, a parenthetical indicator of the chapters comprising a given title. No official version of the Official Code of Georgia can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the contents frame for the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the number after the hyphen indicates a chapter: “§ 10-1-370” is in title 10, Chapter 1.
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. Individual sections in the Hawaii Revised Statutes can be viewed on-line. The contents of inclusive chapters also can be viewed; however, the section headings in a chapter listing are not linked to the section texts. Links in the list below are to computer file directories containing the indicated section(s) and inclusive chapter listing. Although the Kansas Statutes can be viewed on-line at the legislature’s web site, the presentation is so clunky as to be practically useless. Reading a law is laborious, since only one section at a time can be viewed (but there are links for next and preceding sections). Finding a specific law is difficult. It is impossible to create a useful link to any specific Kansas statute. Because of the way the Kentucky Revised Statutes are presented on-line, it is seldom possible to link directly to a particular law. Most of the entries in the list below have a link to a chapter’s table of contents and an instruction to scroll down or browser-search to find the beginning section of the law in question. No official version of the Maryland Code can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section.
The codified laws are being reorganized from the existing Annotated Code of Maryland into subject-matter codes such as the Business Regulation Code (Md. Bus. Reg. Code), the Commercial Law Code (Md. Comm. L. Code), and so forth. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the number after the hyphen usually indicates a subtitle (one digit or two digits): “§ 1-301” is in title 1 (subtitle 3) of the specified subject-matter code.
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. No official version of the Mississippi Code can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the second number is a chapter: “§ 27-8-1” is in title 27, chapter 8.
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. Navigating in the on-line version of the New Jersey Statutes is laborious at best and can quickly deteriorate to impossible. The title-level view of the table of contents can be expanded only to a section-level view (thus, headings for chapters and articles are not shown). References in section texts to “this act” or “this article” or “this chapter” often cannot be related to specific sections because section numbering can run continuously without any clue as to where one law (article, chapter) ends and the next begins. (Moreover, by some strange electronic witchcraft, a user’s browser can become fixated on one particular table-of-contents view of the statutes database, and the user will then be unable to see, thus unable to drill down through, certain sections in a table-of-contents view. It is not apparent why this happens or what can be done about it. A user encountering this flaw may want to send an inquiry to the legislature’s webmaster.)
A specific section in the statutes database can be reached from the main page for the New Jersey Statutes by using the search function (e.g., search for “46:38A-1.” — use quotation marks and include the terminal period ), and adjacent sections then can be viewed using forward/backward-arrow links. No official version of the New Mexico Statutes can be viewed on the internet. A version provided by Conway Greene Co. is available; however, direct links to chapters and sections would not be feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the contents frame for the Conway Greene Co. version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a chapter; the second number indicates an article: “§ 24-6A-1” is in chapter 24, article 6A. Specific linking to sections in the North Dakota Century Code is not possible. Links in the list below are to chapters of the code. (The first number in a section citation indicates the title; the second number indicates the chapter: e.g., “51-08.1” in § 51-08.1-01 indicates chapter 8.1 in title 51). To find a specific section (e.g., “51-08.1-12”), browse within the chapter. Because of the way the on-line version of the code is presented by the North Dakota Legislature, it is not feasible to monitor annual legislation for the purpose of discovering repeals; therefore, currency of information here regarding North Dakota law cannot be assured. Specific linking to laws and parts of laws no longer is possible. Take note of the location of the uniform law in question; then navigate to it on the official site for New York laws (including consolidated laws, unconsolidated laws, and court acts). No official version of the Tennessee Code can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the second number indicates a chapter (and the last number sometimes indicates a part): “§ 29-5-301” is in title 29, chapter 5 (part 3).
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. Because of the way the Washington Revised Code is presented on-line, it is not always possible to link directly to a particular law. Therefore, an entry in the list below may have a link to a unit’s table of contents and an instruction to scroll down or browser-search to find the beginning section of the law in question. No official version of the District of Columbia Code can be viewed on the internet. A Westlaw version is available, however. Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the Westlaw version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. The first number in a section citation (before the hyphen) indicates a title; the number after the hyphen indicates a chapter (one digit or two digits) and, sometimes, a subchapter: “§ 7-1521.01” is in title 7, chapter 15 (subchapter 2).
Please notify Administrator@LawSource.com about link errors or citation errors. No official version of the Virgin Islands Code can be viewed on the internet. A LexisNexis version using a Folio Infobase is available; however, links are not reliable, and monitoring the Infobase for currency is not feasible.
Take note of the beginning section for the law in question; then in the LexisNexis version, drill down through successive levels to reach the desired section. Section numbers do not reflect any higher-level unit (article, chapter, title).

A version of the UCC is in force in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Numbering of the state-enacted articles does not necessarily track the Uniform Law Commission version. In addition, some states enacted Article 10 on matters such as the effective date, repeal of superseded statutes, and so forth. In the list below, discrete links to UCC articles (e.g., UCC–1) are provided when a table-of-contents listing for the state’s version of the entire UCC would be cumbersome or impossible. Ala. The act creates a new form of business entity and is an alternative to other cooperative and unincorporated structures. (This act is a modern alternative for the Uniform Agricultural Cooperative Association Act. The original working title for this act was “Uniform Agricultural and Agricultural Related Cooperatives Act”; that was supplanted during the drafting process by “Uniform Cooperative Association Act” so as not to restrict application to agricultural associations; and the final title reflects the Uniform Law Commission recommendation that the act “is a free-standing act separate and apart from current cooperative acts and, therefore, is not a statutory replacement of other law. It is simply another statutory option under which to form an entity.”) [Overview] [Text] [Summary] [Legislative Activity] 18 Okla. Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act  (2010)
This act addresses an issue of tenancy-in-common land ownership, a type of joint ownership without rights of survivorship. When there is no right of survivorship, the death of a tenant-in-common can trigger an action to partition the land so as to satisfy the deceased tenant’s heirs. In a partition, the land is sold to satisfy tenant-in-common interests, often in a sale that does not meet market value. The act establishes remedies for use in those partition actions involving such heirs property. (The term heirs property, spelled without a possessive apostrophe, is the customary referent, in many communities, for the kind of property in question.) The remedies are designed to help those who own heirs property to maintain ownership of their property when possible or to insure at the very least that any court-ordered sale of the property is conducted under commercially reasonable circumstances that will protect the owners from losing substantial wealth upon the sale of their property. This act is recommended by the Native American Rights Fund, not the Uniform Law Commission. [Text] Model Tribal Secured Transactions Act  (2005, am. 2006)
This act, which is recommended for enactment by Native American tribal legislative bodies, is consistent with the core principles of article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, establishing a substantive and procedural framework to provide certainty to secured transactions. [Overview] [Text] [Summary] [Legislative Activity] Uniform Trust Code Act  (2000, am. 2001, am. 2003–2005)
This act provides a comprehensive model for codifying the law on trusts. Where the UTC is in force, the following uniform acts could also be in force; these acts are regarded by the Uniform Law Commission as not affected by the UTC:
    Uniform Common Trust Fund Act
    Uniform Custodial Trust Act
Uniform Management of Institutional Funds Act
    Uniform Principal and Income Act
Uniform Statutory Rule Against Perpetuities Act
Uniform Supervision of Trustees for Charitable Purposes Act
Uniform Testamentary Additions to Trusts Act
However, where the UTC is in force, the Uniform Prudent Investor Act should be codified as article 9 of the UTC. Also, the UTC does have a few provisions that overlap provisions of the Uniform Probate Code.

(Insofar as a nonprofit organization has the form of a charitable trust, the organization would be governed largely by the Uniform Supervision of Trustees for Charitable Purposes Act, instead of this act.)
